Mudjacking Pros

Mudjacking is a process of “jacking” concrete up from below using a mud-like grout of cement, water, and screened soil. A technician drills holes through the existing concrete slab and then injects material through the holes to lift it from underneath back to its originally poured height.  Advantages of mudjacking include:

  • Costs less than poly leveling or complete slab replacement
  • Non-invasive
  • Ready to use next day
  • Works best for sidewalks, patios, steps, driveways, garages, and pool decks

Polyurethane Foam Pros

The other concrete leveling method is polyurethane foam concrete raising sometimes called poly leveling or polyjacking. Similar to mudjacking, small holes are drilled into the slab. Instead of a grout mix, poly leveling injects a polyurethane foam that expands to level the sunken concrete. Polyurethane foam has many advantages:

  • No heavy equipment
  • Cures in under an hour
  • Compacts soil and fills voids
  • Just 5/8-inch in diameter holes, great for decorative concrete
  • Waterproof and extremely lightweight
  • Works in many areas like garage floors, basements, driveways, patios and pools

Half the Cost of Replacement

If your concrete slab is undamaged, concrete leveling is often better than replacement. To replace a concrete slab, you will pay to remove the old slab, bring the materials to a recycler, and then pour a new slab.

Not only is it faster and a lot less invasive, mudjacking is the least expensive option at usually 50-60% less than pouring new concrete. For poly leveling, you’ll spend 30-40% less than pouring new concrete.
